Dietitians are available to provide individual nutrition counseling during and after cancer treatment. They will assess your individual nutrition needs to provide practical advice on how to optimise your dietary intake, manage symptoms and/or treatment side effects. This may include information about food safety, appropriate diet texture and nourishing food options, or, where appropriate, tube feeding.
The team consists of Accredited Practicing Dietitians (APD) with the qualifications and skills to provide expert nutrition and dietary advice. The team has sound university training accredited by the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA). We apply an evidence-based approach to each individual’s care.
The Dietitians work closely with the medical, nursing and other allied health professionals at St Vincent’s Hospital to ensure each person receives comprehensive care tailored to their individual needs.
Our commitment extends to patient focused research in optimising the nutrition care of cancer patients in consultation with our medical colleagues. Special interest areas include Head and Neck cancer and Bone Marrow Transplant.
If you would like a referral to the Dietitian service, please speak to your Doctor or cancer care coordinator.
