Dr Rachel Dear graduated with first class honours in medicine from the University of New South Wales and completed medical oncology training at Westmead Hospital before completing her PhD under the supervision of Professor Martin Tattersall at the University of Sydney in 2012. During her PhD she was a clinical fellow at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. She worked as a medical oncologist at the Mater Hospital from 2012 before joining the Kinghorn Cancer Centre at St Vincent’s Hospital in 2014 where she is now at Senior Staff Specialist. She is director of the Wellness Centre at the Kinghorn Cancer Centre which aligns with her passion for supportive therapies in people with cancer such as exercise, acupuncture, massage, yoga and meditation. Rachel specializes in the diagnosis and management of breast cancer. She is a conjoint lecturer at the University of New South Wales, and a honorary associate in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Sydney.
Rachel is closely involved in the teaching and supervision of the junior doctors at St Vincent’s Hospital. She is the medical oncology advanced trainee registrar coordinator, and she is the supervisor for registrars doing medical oncology rotations. She was appointed an Editor of the Cochrane Breast Cancer Group in 2019 and has been a member of the Medical Oncology Group of Australia Breast Cancer Expert Group since 2019.
