In association with clinicians at several teaching hospitals in Sydney (St Vincent’s, Royal Prince Alfred / Sydney Cancer Centre and St George), Melbourne (Peter Mac Cancer Centre, Royal Melbourne Hospital) and major national and international trials groups (NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Breast cancer Research, Australia New Zealand Breast Cancer Trials Group and International Breast Cancer Study Group) the breast cancer research group have developed large tissue banks and patient databases that are being used to identify and validate new biomarkers of disease subtype, disease progression and response to particular therapies. These studies assist in the implementation of a biomarker-guided personal medicine approach to breast cancer treatment.
