As a St Vincent’s patient, you have access to world class treatments and expert specialists who are dedicated to guiding you through your care.

The Wellness Centre forms part of TKCC’s integrative medicine approach which addresses the biological, psychological, social and spiritual aspects of health and illness, with due respect for the human capacity for healing and the importance of the relationship between the practitioner and the patient. Connection of the mind and body is important and a focus of the Centre.

Individual wellness therapies

All therapies offered at the Wellness Centre are evidence-based and are proven to be safe for patients undergoing cancer treatment. Our Therapies are designed to be used alongside conventional cancer treatments (eg. chemotherapy and radiotherapy) and are integrated into your complete care.

All Wellness Centre therapies are open to patients, as well as partners, carers and family members. We understand the stress associated with caring for a loved one undergoing cancer treatment and are here to support you throughout.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a safe, effective therapy that can accessed at any time throughout treatment to minimise side effects, and after treatment to support recovery. Acupuncture works on all systems of the body, making it an excellent therapy for many conditions. The needles used are extremely fine, causing little to no discomfort.

Exercise physiology

Individually prescribed Exercise Physiology programs assist in relieving the side effects of cancer treatment and focus on regaining strength, protecting bone density and maintaining muscle mass. An Exercise Physiology assessment is recommended for all patients at the time of diagnosis, in order to obtain the best results during treatment and beyond.

Lymphoedema management

Lymphoedema Management plays a key role in the multidisciplinary approach to cancer treatment. Treatment focuses on the early identification, management and rehabilitation of physical and functional impairments during and after cancer treatment.

Oncology massage

Oncology Massage takes into consideration the physical changes that occur in the body during and after cancer treatment. The massage is modified to be safe at all stages of your treatment and recovery. It is deeply relaxing and nurturing.

The Wellness Centre offers FREE Group Wellness Programs to our patients throughout the year. These Programs allow some time out from your treatment schedule, as well as teaching valuable skills that can be used in everyday life. Meditation & mindfulness

The FREE six-week course is an opportunity for patients to explore and learn techniques, which may assist with physical and mental wellbeing, during and post treatment. Still Mind Zen meditation and mindfulness explores different themes each week focusing on correct breathing techniques, quieting the mind and deep relaxation.

Groups are limited to 20 participants and registration is open to patients only. Groups are run three times per year.

Art therapy

In this FREE five-week program, the process of joyful art making is explored using a range of mediums such as paint, clay, collage and textiles. Art Therapy offers a creative, safe and nurturing way to express feelings, reduce stress and build self-esteem. Workshops are limited to 8 participants and registration is open to patients only. Workshops are run three times per year.

Yoga therapy

Yoga Therapy can assist with many of the symptoms of cancer treatment including fatigue, low mood, insomnia and stress. Catering to all levels and ages, this FREE monthly yoga class will incorporate asanas (gentle poses) pranayama (breath work) meditation, visualisation and other yogic techniques in every session. The breath is central to the yoga practice, so we slow things down so that we can connect mind, body and breath making the practice quite meditative and relaxing.

For hygiene purposes you will need to bring your own mat, but any additional yoga equipment will be provided.

Classes are limited to 20 participants and registration is open to patients, carers and friends.
